Electricity to Clemson’s campus was out early Monday morning, giving staff and students alike a Monday away from the grind (even though employees were told they had to take a leave day). Perhaps Duke Energy should have plugged into defensive coordinator Brent Venables, because that dude is providing plenty of juice these days.

The former Clemson All-American lost his battle with cancer Monday morning, passing away at the age of 63. He was diagnosed with cancer in January. The Seneca native played for the Tigers from 1972-75.

ESPN college football analyst Tom Luginbill has been around the game of football and quarterbacks for most of his life, including playing, coaching and scouting. Currently, he’s the National Recruiting Director for ESPN, and he spent last Saturday on the field in Death Valley watching Clemson’s spring game. He was blown away with what he saw.

Saturday lived up to the hype. At least the hype I created in my own head. We were preparing to leave the house Saturday morning when the bat phone rang. That is what I call it when I get the news that a commitment is about to happen or has just happened. Clemson had one Friday with Bryton Constantin and 5-star receiver Frank Ladson committed early Saturday.
